I hope everyone is well and thawed out and getting back into the swing of things, wow these kids have so many make-up days!
A couple of things I wanted to inform you all:
I just wanted to extend the discounted membership dues until March 17th.
The dues are the same as the 2017 rates, minus $5, and I encourage you all to take advantage of this deal. After March 17th, these rates will be gone for good! We’ll be posting those amounts soon.
Last year’s rates:
$325 – Regular Members
$305 – Stock Members
$295 – Active/retired military
$295 – Seniors age 65 and up
$195 – Single Membership
As in years past, you will receive five free guest passes, as long as you join by April 15th (but remember, membership prices go up March 18th).
Please consider joining early. We are still paying off the new filters, and with the lifeguard pay increase, we are experiencing a little crunch on expenses. Let me know if you would like to split your dues into two parts, that would work also, but I hope you can get in on these savings!
Second: We will be having a Paint Party Fund Raiser, Date TBA
I am super excited about this, I have never been to a paint party, people tell me they are great. Please plan on coming out and bring a friend!
As soon as I have the date and time (Looks like it may be be on a Sunday afternoon) as soon as I get the information (cost as well) I will get back to you.
Third: Our annual St.Patrick’s Day Party is gearing up in March, please spread the word to your family and friends about this fantastic party. It’s an excellent time to get back together before the heat is on and we encourage you to bring friends… we need more members!! We have a tentative date for the party, March 16 (Friday) at 6:30pm. Will confirm as soon as we know.
Lastly: We are actively seeking a pool/operations, pool/manager for our summer season of 2018. Ideally, we would like to hire from within our membership… but we will be placing the ad in the coming weeks. Please ask around, if you know of anyone who has management experience or pool operations experience, send them our way. It is possible to make this two separate jobs if needed. Call/e-mail or text me if you need a job description or more information.
Also needed is a Swim Team Coordinator. This is really important. Swim Team gets going in April, so we do not have much time! Please consider helping out… this is a volunteer position, and it is so rewarding. Our team is the best (in my opinion) and we are so looking forward to another great swim season. Please consider helping out!!
Thank you all for being part of the best recreation association in Newport News.
I look forward to seeing you all soon, I hope you can get those discounted memberships in!!

Please excuse this late message, I am afraid I have been distracted by this hurricane/weather down south… I have relatives in Puerto Rico and Florida and my future in-laws are in Ft. Lauderdale… so nerve wracking!! I pray that if you have relatives down south (Houston as well) that they stay safe and receive the help that they may need… and if we are threatened by the hurricanes churning down there, that you take every precaution necessary to stay safe!
One resource that I use is Next Door Beechmont. You can locate it on Facebook or online, and it’s easy to get signed in to our message board for our neighborhood… that way we can stay connected to neighbors close and not so close by. I highly recommend it, city officials are connected and important announcements come through there as well.
And now for our final announcements for summer 2017:
Dog Swim Party @ 4pm this Saturday, Sept. 9
(Please enter leashed, and please all shots up to date)
Bring your pooches to the pool and let’s see if they love the pool as much as we do! This is a really fun and unique activity… even if you do not have a dog, it’s fun to observe!
And finally, please be ready to help us stack all of our pool deck chairs and lounges for storage under our snack shack area. We really appreciate all of the members here at the Beechwood Recreation Association, it is all of you who make this association the best in the city.
Announcing our next themed fun Friday this week coming up (July 38, 6-8) Salsa Night at the pool!! We will supply hot dogs and fruit punch.
You can dance the salsa or eat the salsa. Please bring your best dish.. Mexican, Puerto Rican, Spanish and everything in between!!

It’s that time of year again, time to get ready for our new season, time to get the pool drained, cleaned, and painted for the 2017 summer season! Please save the dates for the afternoon of the 21st, all day of the 22nd and the 23rd of April (Friday, Saturday and Sunday).
There is a lot to be excited about, with our new filters and the tennis courts all cleaned up… I am so looking forward to this summer!
Please come out in clothes that can get messy, wear boots and bring brooms if you can. Those of you who are familiar with this detail, please text or e-mail me back so that I have a list of seasoned helpers.
I will list exact times for arrival in a follow up e-mail, but the deep end will be drained and painted on Saturday afternoon… hoping to get the shallow end drained cleaned and painted the afternoon of the 21st, Friday.
1 free pool pass will be given to each family member who can show up and help us get the pool going again.
In addition, please remember that membership dues are being accepted, and each family receives 5 free passes for dues paid by the 15th of April! We could definitely use the membership dues early this year, we have a few extra expenses before we open.
Make sure that you spread the word on our upcoming season, we need more families to join us!! Please contact Jeanette with any questions.
Here’s a cute photo from last season’s dog swim, typically held the last day of the season, at closing time. We do our best to provide fun events throughout the season to help families enjoy the summer, as well as throughout the year. The investment of a membership is money well spent!
